MN DNR CO reports

February 20, 2018
Complaints of garbage and wood blocks left behind were reported and investigated. Fish house owners are reminded to remove all blocking under their houses so area residents don’t have to do shore clean-up. Littering still remains an issue on the lakes. Mn DNR file photo.

NR Pilot Brad Maas (Brainerd) worked on deer surveys in Deer Permit Area 241. We use two helicopters in this area, which is very large and includes more than 250 plots to check. Conditions were very good and low temperatures helped with visibility by keeping snow in the fields. It’s been at least three winters since there was adequate snow to survey this permit area. Many deer were observed, including some still carrying antlers.

CO Randy Posner (Brainerd West) reports that he worked on fishing enforcement. The ice anglers were out trying their luck. Ice conditions vary from open water areas to 14 inches of ice. Violations CO Posner observed were unattended lines and extra hooks. The ice conditions have improved, however slush and large pressure ridges have developed on Gull Lake and other area lakes.
